Praziquantel, also known as cyclopyrisoquinolone, is a commonly used drug for the treatment of schistosomiasis. It has minimal toxicity to animals and is rapidly absorbed in the digestive tract after oral administration. The peak time of blood drug was 5 minutes in mice, 15-30 minutes in rats, 30-120 minutes in dogs and 2 hours in sheep. After absorption, the drug is widely distributed in all tissues and organs, even can pass through the blood-brain barrier of rats, and can enter the bile of dogs. It can promote the influx of Ca²⁺ outside the muscle cell membrane of Schistosoma japonicum, cause muscle contracture, and lose the ability to absorb parasitic parts. At the same time, it causes the disorder of glucose metabolism and energy metabolism, the state of “accompanying immunity” is destroyed, and then through the host immune system, the worm body is finally destroyed. The killing effect of Schistosoma, Taenia, Paragonimus, cysticercosis and immature worm body (cercariae and miracidia) is very good.
